The New American Woman
10:12 AM
Black Girl Magic is real right now! African American
women are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in America, the most educated
group, and our new Miss USA Deshauna Barber is an African-American woman who serves as logistics commander for the 988th
Quartermaster Detachment Unit of the United States Army! Talk about
winning!
The inspiration behind the wardrobe for the shoot would
be my love for 70s fashion right now. I’m obsessing over flare style and distressed
denim, fringe, and big brim hats. As for jewelry I didn’t want to do too much.
One simple necklace did the trick! Hats are a girl’s best friend! Well, at
least mine anyway lol. This tan hat was the icing on the cake for this outfit.
Statistics
anyone?
According to the National Association
of Education Statistics, African
American women are the most educated group in the U.S. population. Between 2009
and 2010, black women earned 68% of associate’s degrees, 66% of bachelor’s
degrees, 71% of master’s degrees and 65% of all doctorate degrees awarded to
black students.
The 2015 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report states that the number of women-owned
businesses grew by 74 percent between 1997 and 2015. The number of black
women-owned businesses has grown by a whopping 322 percent since 1997. Today,
black women own roughly 14 percent of all businesses in the country owned by
women, which tallies to around 1.3 million businesses, according to the report.
Businesses owned by black women also top the charts in
revenue growth when compared to other minority women-owned firms proving that
their economic clout is ever-growing.
